Failure yields experience
the ramblings of a person with a purpose
What Is This Site About?
I purchased my first pellet grill in 2016 without knowing a thing about them. I had heard of the name Traeger, and that was about it. So, naturally I bought a Green Mountain Grills (GMG) Jim Bowie with WiFi. Makes sense, right? No. Not really.
I had the interest and that drove my willingness to buy a pellet grill rather than take any more time to fully research my purchase. My ulterior motive was to make great food for my family, and challenge my barbecue skills.
The problem I’m hoping to help with is getting the information, options, and capabilities of pellet grills out there. The other problem nowadays is the shear amount of manufacturers of pellet grills. How do you know which one to buy? I hope to answer that for you as well.
So, that’s where I was at, and recently I set out to upgrade my pellet grill. Just like in 2016, I felt like I was going to make an uninformed decision. I was almost to the point of just buying another pellet grill, and I stopped myself. Why, you ask?
I realized I was stunted in my decision because of the many brands, options, and sizes out on the market. I didn’t know where to start, and wanted to get it over with. Get me something new and shiny in my backyard, and I’ll be fine. We all know about buyers remorse, and that’s something I didn’t want for me or anyone else. I started to break it down.
I have a theory that people looking out for a pellet smoker generally fall into 3 different categories. Those that want a smoker. You’ve seen a commercial, been over to a friend’s house, seen one at the local hardware store, or just have a general intrigue in something new. Regardless, the interest is there, and a want is seeking to be fulfilled.
Next, comes the need for a smoker. To fulfill the need, created by the want a person should have some working knowledge on what smoker they want. In order to get that knowledge, the internet becomes a close companion in the search for the perfect smoker. That, is where this site comes in handy.
Finally, after the pursuit of a smoker is met, comes bliss in having a smoker. The great part is that owning a smoker is just the beginning. Discovering and perfecting the craft after each smoke brings confidence, exploration, and the urge to show off a new skill.
Admittedly, there are countless details in between wanting, needing, and having a smoker. The purpose of this site is to make those details a little more clear.
Much appreciation,
David
